Making Goals Mean More
Going to the why behind your goals can keep you going when the daily grind needed to meet the goal gets tough.
The castle of our goals seems pretty and sparkly and fun when we set the goal. We think we also understand that it will be hard to achieve the goal, to actually finish the race needed to get there. But we don’t. Not really. Cause you can’t know hardness ahead of time.
Knowing something will be hard on an intellectual level is not the same as living that hardness out every day. We don’t know how hard it will be until that day when our goal comes crashing down on us and all that pretty sparkle threatens to suffocate us with its weight. And we know it will still be there in the morning.
How do you keep going when the glitter of your goal has become your nemesis. (Example: your goal is to eat healthy and lose weight, but you really want chocolate cake today, and you will again tomorrow…and then you want to swear at your goal, because it is keeping you away from the love of your life (chocolate cake).) I don’t know if that is the proper way to punctuate that double parenthesis, but my goals for the day prevent me the luxury of time to do the research needed to clear up the punctuation. (That was another example, perhaps for someone who does not struggle with chocolate…
