I went on a trip to an orphanage in Guatemala many years ago. It was heartbreaking to see so many kids so hungry for not only food but also love. They had a wonderful place to be taken care of. But if they didn’t get there until they were teens? They didn’t understand and often ran away, they didn’t know how to accept the love of clothes, a bed, and food, being freely given. They were suspicious. Violence is all they knew and they were drawn back to the violent streets like moths to a flame. Heartbreaking. Yes.
